Good morning
A quick thanks to all the well wishers who made contact after this week’s article in Epicure. The truth is that this shop only exists because of the loyal support of you, our customers, who are keen and willing to try a variety of wines and beers and keep it challenging for us. So thanks for the support, and for keeping us on our toes!
Tonight’s tasting will be a ripper! ‘Bird On A Wire’ is the label of Caroline Mooney (ex Yering Station) and Paul Bridgeman (ex DeBortoli and current winemaker at Yarra Yering). Tonight they will show off their very positively received 2008 Syrah which was released a few months back, and launch their brand new single site upper Yarra chardonnay. It’s about quality tonight, not quantity, and Bird On A Wire fits the bill perfectly. So please, join Caroline and Paul from 5pm this afternoon in store to see what all the fuss is about. Free, of course!
Next week, vintage conditions dependent, Timo Mayer will waltz on in here to kick off his new release ‘Bloody Hill’ wines. That will be confirmed in next week’s email.
Speaking of next week, the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is about to get in to full swing. For the first time, Barrique will be a part of the event, in conjunction with Punt Road Wines. Kate Goodman (winemaker at Punt Road) and yours truly will host the ‘From Estate Grown to the Rhone’ sessions, highlighting the similarities/differences between varietals historically linked to the Rhone Valley, and Yarra Valley expressions. Should be good!
